Principal Secretary, Arch Aidah Munano
A career civil servant and an architect by professional, Arch Aidah Munano was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on December 18, 2015 as Principal Secretary for State Department of Housing and Urban Development.
She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Science in Construction Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
She has also attended several professional and senior management workshops, seminars and courses locally and internationally. Munano is registered with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (BORAQS) and is a Corporate Member of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK). Before her appointment, she was Works Secretary in the Public Works Directorate. A polished and hardworking civil servant, Munano rose from an assistant architect in 1982 to become Works Secretary where she gained invaluable experience as a project manager while coordinating the inputs of the buildings project professionals who include Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Structural Engineers in the implementation of government projects.
At one point when she was Chief Architect, her duties included advising the Government on construction matters.
Munano has vast experience in the regulation of the building environment profession, having served on various boards in the public sector including the Board of Registration of Architects & Quantity Surveyors where she was a member of the Ethics and Practice Committee. She also served as a board member of the National Construction Authority.
The Principal Secretary is also spearheading the country’s housing and urban development agenda which includes the development of legal and policy frameworks in the housing and urban development sectors.
Munano has been honoured several times by the Architectural Association of Kenya for her contribution to the construction industry. She has also been commended by various government institutions.
